Danna Korn, founder of GlutenFreedom, is considered one of the foremost experts on the gluten-free diet and medical conditions that benefit from it.
Author of 'Wheat-Free, Worry-Free: The Art of Happy, Healthy, Gluten-Free Living,' and 'Kids with Celiac Disease: A Family Guide to Raising Happy, Healthy Gluten-Free Children,' she appears frequently in national and local media, and has written dozens of articles on gluten-free living that have been published in national magazines and newspapers. Danna has been researching celiac disease since her son, Tyler, was diagnosed with the condition in 1991. That same year, she founded R.O.C.K. (Raising Our Celiac Kids), a free support group for families of children on a gluten-free diet. Today, Danna leads nearly 100 chapters of R.O.C.K. throughout the nation.
She speaks frequently around the country to health care professionals, celiacs, parents of celiacs, parents of autistic kids involved in a gluten-free/casein-free dietary intervention program, and others on a gluten-free diet. She has been invited to be a presentor at the 12th International Symposium on Celiac Disease at Columbia University in New York City in 2006, and was an invited presentor at the 11th International Symposium on Celiac Disease in Belfast, Ireland in 2004. She attended the 10th International Symposium on Celiac Disease in Paris in 2002.
Danna is a consultant for a celiac testing company, and founded a company called GlutenFreedom, which offers consultation services to natural food companies, dietitians and nutritionists, restaurants, and people newly diagnosed with gluten intolerance and celiac disease. She also coordinates the International Walk/Run for Celiac Disease each May in San Diego.
Danna and her husband, Paul, live in Encinitas, CA with their children, Tyler and Kelsie.
'When Tyler was diagnosed with celiac disease, I was overwhelmed and frustrated by the lack of information available. We realized that when we finally figured out how to deal with the unique challenges we faced in raising a child with celiac disease, we would need to reach out and help others. Right away, we started R.O.C.K. - but for a long time, it was just comprised of our family! Soon enough, though, it grew and we enjoyed the comfort of supporting and finding support with other families. As the internet became popular, I received e-mails and phone calls from all over the world - I have no idea how they found me, but they did - all asking the same 100 questions or so! I realized then that what we really needed was a 'manual' - a guide to raising happy, healthy, gluten-free kids. And so, an 'accidental author' was born. It seems the opportunities to reach out and help others are endless - and it is very much a family affair. We feel privileged to be in a position to help others.'
'Danna is one of the most sought-after experts on the gluten-free diet and the medical conditions that benefit from it. As a speaker, she is dynamic, entertaining, and witty, and brings to the table more than a decade of research, experience, and her distinctive energetic optimism.'
